Director: Ridley Scott
Writer: Cormac McCarthy
Stars: Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz and Cameron Diaz
The first trailer for a film HIGH on my most anticipated films of 2013 was finally released today.
At less than a minute, this is very much a teaser and gives nothing away except it hints that Ridley Scott is back to the adult dramas he handles so well; think Black Rain, Body Of Lies, and American Gangster rather than misfires like Robin Hood, The Good Year, or even last year's Prometheus (not that the blame falls entirely at his feet for that one).
The cast speaks for itself; Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem, and Penélope Cruz make for an electrifying line up and we know they can all deliver killer performance with the right material.
Speaking of material, the real reason The Counsellor stands out as a must-see is that it marks the debut screenplay from acclaimed author Cormac McCarthy. Anyone who has read his work knows he doesn’t stick to conventional dialogue (to say the least) so any screenplay by him deserves special attention.
The Counsellor has all the ingredients to be a truly great film, let’s hope it delivers when it’s released later this year.
